Fight against disinformation is EU priority

With a view to the approaching European Parliament elections, EU leaders call for a stronger fight against disinformation and fake news. Lithuania’s efforts have made tackling of fake news and disinformation a permanent priority on the EU agenda. It was at Lithuania’s initiative that a joint EU action plan against disinformation was drafted and approved. A special platform known as the Rapid Alert System, launched in March and aimed at information sharing among member states as well as detection and exposure of fake news, is one of the key elements of the plan.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė signed into law the ratification of the protocol on the accession of the Republic of North Macedonia to NATO. This concludes the Vilnius process launched in 2000 by ten countries declaring their aspirations to NATO membership. North Macedonia is the last of the Vilnius Ten nations that has not as yet acceded the Alliance. The invitation for North Macedonia to join the Alliance testifies to that NATO’s open door policy is an ongoing and dynamic process. Lithuania supports the enlargement of the Alliance.
