President Dalia Grybauskaitė attended the Baltic Summit. The annual meeting of Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian Presidents is held in a different Baltic state each year. This time, the summit was hosted by the Latvian President in Riga.
NATO enhanced forward presence - Lithuania's security guarantee
President Dalia Grybauskaitė welcomed NATO troops who had arrived to serve in the enhanced forward presence battalion deployed to Lithuania, and met with German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen in Rukla. Taking part in the ceremony held at the Lithuanian Great Hetman Jonušas Radvila Training Regiment were also soldiers from the United States, Belgium, and the Czech Republic.

The highlight of the agenda was the importance of strong transatlantic relations for peace and security. Acording to the President, the United States is Lithuania’s strategic partner that contributes to building up security across the entire region through active and tangible work. Dalia Grybauskaitė expressed gratitude to the Vice President for his country’s decision to deploy U.S. soldiers and military equipment, including tanks “Abrams” in Poland and in the Baltic states.

This year, German Federal President Joachim Gauck will join the Presidents of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
