Holocaust rescuers – a model for courage and generosity of heart
President Dalia Grybauskaitė awarded the Life Saving Cross to those Lithuanian citizens who despite grave danger to their families and themselves saved Jews from the Nazi genocide during World War II. Forty four persons were decorated posthumously.
The President received Person of the Year Award
President Dalia Grybauskaitė received the Person of the Year Award from the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture during her working visit to New York. The President was awarded for her substantial contribution to the promotion of Lithuanian national identity and culture. The Person of the Year Award was established as early as in 1969. Each year, this award recognizes persons with special merits to Lithuania, its culture, and progress.
A better world can only be achieved through full participation of women
President Dalia Grybauskaitė delivered a speech at the 71st United Nations General Assembly, which focuses on boosting sustainable global development. The seventeen Sustainable Development Goals came into effect this year. They are aimed at ending poverty and hunger, ensuring quality education and health care, achieving gender equality, delivering growth and tackling climate change by 2030.

Leaders from around the world came to pay their respects: U.S. President Barack Obama, President François Hollande of France, President Joachim Gauck of Germany, King Felipe VI of Spain, Prince Charles of Great Britain, President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine, the presidents of Mexico, Ukraine and Georgia, the prime ministers of Australia and Canada, heads of the UN, NATO and the EU, and many other international dignitaries.
