As the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw is approaching on 15 August, President Gitanas Nausėda emphasized the importance of a historic victory in the Battle of Warsaw in his letter to President Andrzej Duda of Poland.
According to the President, although this victory halted the expansion of Bolshevism in Europe, it constantly reminds the whole of Europe that peace, freedom and independence are not given. These values must be fostered through daily efforts.
“Commemoration of the Battle of Warsaw is highly important in the context of our daily challenges, when we still have to defend territorial integrity and statehood of countries, to fight not only for the preservation of democracy and human rights but against the distortion of history and disinformation”, the President said in his letter.
The President informed the Polish leader that he would not be able to take part in the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw due to the changes in his agenda, but Viktoras Pranckietis, the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, planned to represent Lithuania at the event.
