Diana Nausėdienė and Poland’s First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda took a tour in Vilnius Old Town visiting Vilnius University and the Church of Divine Mercy.
At the meeting, the First Ladies of Lithuania and Poland paid special attention to the memory of the King of Poland and the Grand Duke of Lithuania Sigismund Augustus whose 500th birth anniversary is commemorated this year. To mark the occasion Diana Nausėdienė and Agata Kornhauser-Duda visited places in Vilnius Old Town, the Cathedral and Vilnius University, that are related to this historical figure cherished by both nations.
The First Ladies had an opportunity to see exclusive library exhibits such as works and manuscripts of distinguished personalities in the history of Lithuanian and Polish culture and science, including historian Joachim Lelewel, former students of the university poets Adam Mickiewicz and Juliusz Słowacki. They also admired the most impressive exhibit – one of the 14 books with ornate superexlibrises by Sigismund Augustus kept at the library of Vilnius University.
The First Ladies also visited the Hall of Joachim Lelewel where a highly valuable cartographic collection was presented including unique old maps copied by the historian himself.
The First Ladies were the first officials to visit the hall after the restoration.
Diana Nausėdienė and Agata Kornhauser-Duda also went to the Church of Divine Mercy which attracts pilgrims from all over the world.
