Saturday, February 10, PyeongChang, South Korea – President Dalia Grybauskaitė, who is in South Korea, paid a visit to the national Olympic delegation at the PyeongChang Olympic Village.
As she gave the athletes a gift of honey from her bee hives, brown bread and sweets from Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaitė wished them strength in competition.
According to the President, the national athletes of winter sports have a special role to play – to compete for Lithuania celebrating its 100th birthday. The tricolor flying in the Olympic Village is a message about Lithuania to the entire world. The President wished the athletes to carry the national flag in their hearts as well.
The President met with Vida Vencienė, the athlete who won gold and bronze medals at the Winter Olympics 30 years ago. Vida Vencienė still trains Olympic athletes and is a member of the Olympic delegation.
This year, nine Lithuanian athletes – four biathlon, three cross-country and two alpine skiers compete in the Winter Olympic Games held for the 23rd time. According to the President, although Lithuania’s delegation is not big, it is paramount for each member to spare no effort, compete honestly and fairly for Lithuania, allowing our tricolor to fly as long as possible.
After her visit to the Olympic Village, the President will meet with the executives of one of the world’s largest technology companies, Samsung.
