Thursday, March 7, Vilnius – Tomorrow, on March 8 at 11.30, President Dalia Grybauskaitė will meet with Arturs Krišjānis Kariņš, the new Prime Minister of Latvia who is on a visit to Lithuania.
The President and the Prime Minister will discuss the implementation of regional strategic energy and transportation projects, including the synchronization of the Baltic and Continental power grid. Relevant EU cooperation matters, Brexit and preparation for the negotiations on the new multiannual financial framework will be addressed too.
Considerable attention should be devoted to issues of regional security and stronger defense. The state leaders will discuss joint actions in implementation of further NATO defense and deterrence measures for the Baltic States.
It is important for Lithuania and Latvia to have rapid allied reinforcement and regional air defense, boost readiness of the Alliance, eliminate military mobility obstacles, and continuously update defense plans.
The Prime Minister was born in the United States of America, has a PhD in linguistics and computational linguistics. As of 2009, he was a Latvian Member of the European Parliament working in the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, and a Special committee on financial crimes, tax evasion and tax avoidance.
