The President received letters of credence from the Ambassador of the Netherlands

Monday, September 10, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Bonny Pascale Evelyne Horbach. During their meeting, the President and the new Ambassador discussed bilateral and international relations, military and economic cooperation, and other topical issues.

They also addressed the role of NATO’s forward presence battalion in strengthening the region’s defense and deterrence. The Dutch soldiers, who together with German troops form the core of the forward forces deployed in Lithuania, are actively engaged in the nationwide social campaign “For A Safe Lithuania” launched by the President. The Netherlands have also joined PESCO’s task force led by Lithuania aimed at establishing a cyber rapid response force.

Cooperation opportunities in the IT, renewable energy and LNG sectors were discussed at the meeting as well as possibilities of attracting high added value investments to Lithuania. Bilateral trade between the two countries grew by 26 per cent last year.

The Ambassador started her career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2002, she worked in Dutch embassies in Thailand and Iraq, was spokesperson of the State Secretary for European Affairs and headed the Personnel Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before her appointment to Lithuania, she held the position of Consul General in Cape Town.
