Wednesday, December 6, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from the Ambassador of New Zealand, Mary Patricia Thurston.
During their meeting, the President and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations, economic issues, matters relating to the New Zealand Lithuanian community, the relationship between the European Union and New Zealand and their upcoming negotiations on a free trade agreement, as well as cooperation in international organizations.
The President said that Lithuania saw New Zealand as a committed partner, sharing the same values, principles and a common approach to urgent international and security issues. Dalia Grybauskaitė underlined that our country highly valued New Zealand's support in negotiating Lithuania’s membership in the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation (OECD), as well as its position on the crisis in Ukraine.
The President passed on her congratulations to New Zealand's new prime minister Jacinda Arden, together with an invitation to join the Council of Women World Leaders chaired by the Lithuanian President.
Mary Patricia Thurston joined the diplomatic service in 2007. Before her ambassadorial appointment, she was New Zealand's Deputy High Commissioner in Singapore. The Ambassador resides in Warsaw.
