Monday, 19 June, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from Ambassador San Lwin of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. At the meeting, the President focused on European Union matters, the migrant crisis as well as issues related to Lithuania’s and Myanmar’s bilateral cooperation and trade.
The President congratulated Myanmar on its progress in strengthening democracy and the rule of law that lead towards closer partnership with the EU. Dalia Grybauskaitė underscored that Lithuania was ready to share its experience in the areas of renewables, e-governance, life sciences, food safety as well as to discuss study programs for students from Myanmar.
Diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Myanmar were established on 8 October 2013.
This is the first appointment of an Ambassador to Lithuania by Myanmar. Mr. Lwin began his service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1984 and served in different departments as well as at the embassies in China, Singapore and at the Permanent Representation to the United Nations in New York. Before this appointment, he served as Director-General of Political Department. In 2015, the diplomat was appointed as Myanmar’s Ambassador to Austria and resides in Vienna.
