Wednesday, September 12, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from the Ambassador of Thailand, Vichit Chitvimarn. The President and the new Ambassador discussed strengthening of bilateral relations as well as Thailand’s relations with the European Union and cooperation in the fields of economy, business, tourism, and science.
The President underlined that the continuously growing friendship and expanding relationship between Lithuania and Thailand created extensive opportunities for the people and businesses of both countries. During her visit to Thailand last year, the President met with Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and opened an exhibition of Lithuanian children’s book illustrators. Princess Chakri Sirindhorn visited Lithuania in 2016.
According to the President, it is important to develop bilateral trade in food industry, IT, cyber security, laser and renewable energy sectors to further boost relations between the two countries.
Closer cooperation in tourism and student exchange was also among the topics covered during the meeting. The President said that Thai students were welcome in Lithuania and that a visa free regime for Lithuanian citizens would contribute to higher tourist flows from Lithuania.
This is the ninth Thai Ambassador to Lithuania. Vichit Chitvimarn started his diplomatic career at the Foreign Affairs Ministry in 1983, worked as Consul General in China and Japan, later as Ambassador at Large. In 2018 he was appointed as Ambassador to Denmark, residing in Copenhagen.
