Friday, October 12, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from Ambassador Ladislav Babčan of Slovakia.
The President underlined that Lithuania and Slovakia actively cooperated in the European Union and NATO. The meeting focused on bilateral matters and key issues on the European agenda, such as the Community budget, migration and security.
According to Dalia Grybauskaitė, Lithuania highly values Slovakia's contribution to the NATO forward presence in the Baltic region. Slovakian troops are currently deployed in Latvia. External border protection and support to third countries, the necessity to respond to cyber threats and human rights violations were also among the topics discussed at the meeting.
Ladislav Babčan started work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2003. He worked in Canada and in 2010-2014, served as Head of the Embassy in Riga. Before his appointment to Lithuania, he was the Cabinet Director of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Ambassador resides in Riga.
