Wednesday, January 30, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Mira Sun.
The President and the newly appointed Ambassador discussed strengthening of bilateral relations in the areas of economy, business and innovation as well as international security situation. The Ambassador extended gratitude for Lithuania’s support to the peace process in the Korean peninsula.
According to the President, liquefied natural gas terminal – which symbolizes our energy independence – and its storage vessel “Independence” that was built in South Korea reinforced relations between Lithuania and Korea.
Being a highly technologically advanced country, Korea is an important trade partner in Asia. The President believes that opportunities for economic and trade cooperation between the European Union and Korea should be further exploited by developing business ties in areas of high technology and innovation.
Collaboration in international organizations, tourism opportunities as well as cultural and educational exchange were also discussed at the meeting.
The diplomat has a background in the English language and law. In 2018, she was appointed as the Ambassador to Poland, prior to this she was the Chair of the Board of the Korea Human Rights Foundation, and in 2005-2007 she was the Head of Foreign Communication at the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea.
