The President received letters of credence from Azerbaijan’s ambassador

Wednesday, January 16, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from Ambassador Tamerlan Garayev of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During their meeting, the President and the newly appointed ambassador discussed bilateral relations, economic cooperation, student exchange, as well as prospects for the development of closer ties between Azerbaijan and the European Union. According to the President, Azerbaijan is an important partner of the old continent across many fields of action. The EU and Azerbaijan are in the process of negotiating a new agreement, which will further expand their bilateral dialogue.

Dalia Grybauskaitė underlined that Lithuania was ready to build up economic contacts with Azerbaijan, especially in information technologies, tourism, food industry, transport, logistics, and other areas.

Tamerlan Garayev graduated law at Azerbaijan State University. From 1990 to 1992, he was member of the Azerbaijan parliament. Starting with 1993, he served as ambassador in China and India. Before his appointment to Vilnius, he was ambassador in Indonesia. He speaks Azerbaijani, English, Russian, and Turkish.
