Wednesday, April 17, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Giedrius Čekuolis, Lithuanian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden.
The President and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations between Lithuania and Sweden, cooperation in areas of the economy, energy, security, culture, and tourism as well as shared challenges in the European Union.
According to the President, Sweden is an important partner not only in the search for support on key EU agenda issues but also in ensuring greater security and welfare in the Baltic and Nordic region. When addressing regional security, the President highlighted the inseparable role Sweden plays in regional defense even though it is not a NATO member.
The Ambassador has a background in international relations and started his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990. He worked as an ambassador in Madrid, Paris, and Geneva at the OSCE and other international organizations. In 2016, he was appointed as the Ambassador at large for migration issues and diplomatic certification. The Ambassador speaks Spanish, English, French, and Russian.
