Friday, November 16, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Donatas Kušlys, Lithuanian Ambassador to Austria.
The President and the newly appointed Ambassador discussed the most important bilateral and European issues relevant to Lithuania and Austria, including migration, the development of business contacts and other matters.
According to the President, Lithuania highly values Austria as an important partner, especially in addressing topical European issues and searching for a joint response to security challenges. Although Austria is neutral, it is involved in EU defense cooperation projects in the framework of PESCO.
Dalia Grybauskaitė told the Ambassador to actively present Lithuania’s position in Austria, expand business opportunities, consistently raise the profile of our country through culture and communicate closely with the expanding Lithuanian community in Austria.
Lithuania’s ambassador to Austria is also accredited to Slovenia and Slovakia.
The Ambassador started his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1999. In 2007-2018, he worked in the Presidential Protocol Division at the State and Diplomatic Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2010, he was Head of the President’s Protocol Division. Earlier, he had worked at the embassy in Germany. It is his first appointment as ambassador. He speaks German, English, Russian, and Polish.
