Friday, December 1, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations on behalf of the Lithuanian people and on her own behalf to President Klaus Iohannis of Romania on national holiday – Unification Day.
According to the President, Romania is an important partner and ally of Lithuania. Similar historical experiences, geographical region and membership in continental and Euro-Atlantic communities that connect Lithuania and Romania has shaped common civic values and long-term national goals: to maintain the security, well-being, independence, and freedom of people.
In her message of congratulations, the President underscored that, in the past several years, Romania and Lithuania had become close and like-minded allies working together to respond to evolving security challenges and to address global and defense issues. Lithuania highly values Romania's contribution to strengthening the security of the region.
Dalia Grybauskaitė stated that both countries were steadily expanding their bilateral dialogue, and expressed a strong hope that the citizens, too, would have increasingly more opportunities to carry out meaningful and mutually beneficial joint projects. The President is convinced that successful experiences of cooperation in trade, investment, research, tourism, culture, and education will definitely make people-to-people contacts and friendship ties between the two nations even stronger.
The President sent her best wishes for the continued success, security and prosperity of Romania and all its people.
