Sunday, March 17, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė congratulated President Michael D. Higgins of Ireland on Saint Patrick’s Day.
The President pointed out that Lithuanians were also celebrating – like every year – the national day of their Irish friends in Vilnius and across Lithuania. “Over the past fifteen years of collaborative work in the European Union, our bilateral dialogue and exceptional people-to-people contacts have deepened and expanded, and we are truly delighted about that,” the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
She underscored the importance of Ireland as a partner country and ally for developing bilateral relations and addressing major continental challenges. The values of freedom and democracy that we share, the President wrote, and the spirit of European solidarity have brought our two nations to the same mindset in dealing with urgent issues on the European Union agenda.
Dalia Grybauskaitė expressed her firm belief that the dynamic relationship between Lithuania and Ireland would continue to grow, creating many new opportunities for the citizens of both countries.
The President wished the Irish people all over the world continued happiness, success, well-being, and concord.
