2018-12-03

Monday, December 3, Vilnius President Dalia Grybauskaitė and a group of children from large families have left for Lapland to meet Santa Claus and give him a package of letters with Christmas wishes from Lithuanian kids.

More than 1500 children responded to the President's invitation to send drawings to Santa Claus and create an opportunity for kids from large families to visit Lapland. One hundred kids were selected by random draw from Vilnius, Kaunas, Utena, Alytus, and from the districts of Tauragė, Šilalė and Rokiškis.

The kids will not only meet Santa, but will also see reindeer, ride a husky sledge and enjoy the beautiful winter landscape of Rovaniemi. They are accompanied by ambassadors of the President-initiated social campaign “For A Safe Lithuania”: Rūta Milkevičiūtė and Rolandas Mackevičius.

“Mission Lapland” was launched by the President last year. It brings together the nationwide campaign “For A Safe Lithuania”, the news portal Delfi and the Lithuanian supermarket chain Norfa.

From Lapland, the President will be traveling directly to Katowice at the invitation of Polish President Andrzej Duda to discuss regional security and support for Ukraine. In Katowice, Dalia Grybauskaitė will attend the UN Climate Change Conference events, a concert of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra celebrating Poland’s centennial and official dinner.
