Monday, December 3, Rovaniemi – President Dalia Grybauskaitė together a group of children from large families visited Santa Claus to deliver him a package of letters and Christmas drawings from Lithuania.
One hundred kids were selected by random draw to go and meet Santa. They also visited reindeer and husky parks, Arctic Circle rooms and Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi.
“Mission Lapland” was organized for the second year running by the online news portal Delfi, an active partner of the nationwide campaign “For A Safe Lithuania” launched by President Dalia Grybauskaitė, with the support of the supermarket chain Norfa. This Christmas initiative brought together 1500 children from all across Lithuania who were invited to draw their dreams and create an opportunity for kids from large families to visit Lapland.
According to the President, “Mission Lapland” is the best proof that kids are miracle makers. By sharing compassion and helping others to realize their Christmas dreams, we are building a more beautiful, responsible and stronger Lithuania.
The President pointed out that Lapland was a distant dream for many children from large families. Therefore, nationwide involvement in this initiative demonstrated that young Lithuanians had a lot of compassion and a great spirit of sharing.
“Mission Lapland” was launched by the President last year when 100 kids from Lithuanian orphanages traveled to Rovaniemi to meet Santa in person.
