Friday, June 8, Warsaw, Poland – at the invitation of President Andrzej Duda of Poland, President Dalia Grybauskaitė attended festive events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Poland’s independence in Warsaw.
The President signed the symbolic Book of Independence at the historic Belvedere Palace and made the President of Poland a special present of a tile replica with the coats of arms of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland, the Lithuanian Vytis and Polish Eagle.
The impressive archeological find, made 400 years ago during the times of Sigismundus Vasa, was discovered when researching the site of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. The coat of arms of the Vasa Dynasty is also depicted on the surface of the tile. According to the President, it is a beautiful symbol of shared history, friendship and strong relations between Lithuania and Poland.
United by history and love for freedom, Lithuania and Poland mark the centennials of their statehood this year. Over the recent century, both countries bravely met the hardest of challenges, withstood totalitarian regimes and repressions and now successfully create new history of their states and joint effort in ensuring prosperity and security of their people.
This evening, President Dalia Grybauskaitė will also attend the festive concert dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Poland’s independence at the Royal Theatre.
On February 16 this year, the President of Poland and the First Lady have also attended festive events in Vilnius, when Lithuania celebrated the centennial of the restoration of the state.
Traditionally, the National Independence Day of Poland is marked on November 11 d.
