Wednesday, April 10, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė is leaving for Brussels to attend a special meeting of the European Council.
The meeting is convened because the British House of Commons rejected the withdrawal agreement and the current Brexit date is April 12.
In order to avoid a no-deal, Prime Minister Theresa submitted a request for a further extension of Brexit until 30 June.
EU leaders will consider the British Prime Minister’s request, the deadline and conditions for delaying Brexit in the expectation that a political consensus will be reached in the UK on withdrawal from the EU.
Institutions and member states have already started preparations for a hard Brexit. On April 11, the Lithuanian parliament will vote for a package of 19 laws that would come into force in case of a no-deal Brexit.
