The leaders of Lithuania and Moldova discussed political situation in Moldova and fight against the pandemic

President Gitanas Nausėda had a telephone call with the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, to discuss the political situation in Moldova, measures to combat the pandemic and the security situation in the region.

The President said that Lithuania was considering sharing vaccines with Moldova when their supply was sufficient for our country. Views were exchanged on the security situation in the region. The presidents expressed concern at the increasing number of ceasefire violations in Ukraine and the growing demonstration of Russian military power on the Ukrainian border.

The leaders of Lithuania and Moldova agreed to meet in near future as soon as the pandemic situation allows.

Moldova has been an active participant in the EU’s Eastern Partnership since its launch in 2009. The Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU was signed in 2014.
