"This Nobel Prize you have received means that your very open and sincere call for the chance to choose one's own tomorrow free from the shadows of yesterday, your call for the new beginning where America leads, but also works together with each and everybody to achieve what is a common goal has been answered," President Dalia Grybauskaitė writes in the letter to the U.S. President.
Recalling her address at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on 25 September 2009, the President of Lithuania underlines how important it is for small nations to take their share of responsibility and make their contribution for the present and the future of the world.
"All of us, small and large, weak and powerful, need to engage to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East, a world free of nuclear weapons, to confront climate change and find appropriate means to address old and new threats and challenges we face," the congratulatory letter reads.
"Using this opportunity, may I again congratulate you on the honourable award that you have received and offer my country's and my personal support in pursuit of the promising vision that you continue to share with us as a person and as the President of the United States of America," the President writes.
