Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Lithuania’s Ambassador to the United States of America


Monday, July 19, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Žygimantas Pavilionis, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania to the United States of America.

During their meeting, the President and the Ambassador discussed bilateral security and economic issues as well as Lithuania's multilateral agenda - its Chairmanship of the Community of Democracies and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. The President underlined that it was important to maintain active and pragmatic relations with the United States at all levels.

Žygimantas Pavilionis started his diplomatic career at the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry 1993. From 1999 to 2002 he served as Counselor and later on as Minister Counselor at the Lithuanian Permanent Mission to the European Communities. In 2002-2004, he was Director of the European Integration Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Chief Negotiator of Lithuania for the EU accession. From 2006 to 2009, Žygimantas Pavilionis worked as Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania. Before his appointment to Washington, he was Ambassador at Large for the Transatlantic Cooperation and Security Policy Department and Coordinator for Lithuania's Presidency of the Community of Democracies.
