A trilateral meeting of the presidents of Lithuania, Ukraine, and the European Council was held in Vilnius

On July 6, President Gitanas Nausėda of Lithuania, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, and President Charles Michel of the European Council met for a trilateral meeting in Vilnius.

The focus of the meeting was on the European integration prospects of associated countries of the EU Eastern partnership, implementation of reforms in Ukraine, and security situation in Ukraine.

The President of Lithuania stressed that Ukraine’s integration into the EU was a process demanding efforts from both sides. “I urge the EU colleagues to support Ukraine and open a path for its integration into the EU starting from gradual incorporation into the internal market, “ Gitanas Nausėda said.  He invited President Zelensky of Ukraine to have a special focus on the implementation of reforms in the areas of law and law enforcement, fight against corruption, and improved environment for business.

At the meeting, the worrying mobilization of Russian troops in Crimea and at the Border with Ukraine was discussed.

“I support the efforts of President Zelensky to keep the issue of Crimea on the international agenda. Russia continues the enforcement of Crimea’s occupation and proactively spreads its narrative. The continuous mobilization of Russian troops in Crimea and at the Border with Ukraine causes concern and demands attention of the international community,” the President of Lithuania said.

The three presidents discussed the EU Eastern partnership summit to be held at the end of 2021. The leaders also talked about Belarus, illegal migration, and energy security.
