Thursday, June 17, Vilnius - President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė sent congratulations to President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson of the Republic of Iceland on Iceland's national holiday, the Independence Day.
The President of Lithuania underlines in the letter of congratulations that in the past twenty years Iceland has become one of the closest friends and allies of Lithuania and that the strong bonds of mutual understanding and support linking our two countries continue growing.
„It is symbolic that today, when Iceland is celebrating its independence day, the EU Heads of State and Government will be discussing the opening of accession negotiations with Iceland. I would like to assure you that I will strongly support at this meeting, and in the future, all of the steps made to bring your country closer to its aspired goal, which at the same time will give yet another momentum to the acceleration of sincere relations between our two nations and the development of cooperation ties between our people, business communities and politicians," the President writes in the letter.
