Wednesday, April 24, Vilnius – Tomorrow, on Thursday at 8 a.m. President Dalia Grybauskaitė will meet with Marianne Thyssen, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills, and Labor Mobility.
The development of the European Semester and the Report on Progress on Structural Reforms presented by the European Commission in February should be discussed at the meeting. The Report evaluates Lithuania’s achievements in the implementation of country-specific recommendations issued by the Commission last year and names income inequality as one of the greatest challenges.
Lithuania’s priorities for the multiannual financial framework and the effect on social projects that cuts in cohesion funding may have should also be discussed.
The President and the European Commissioner are going to exchange opinions on the European Pillar of Social Rights proposed by the Commission which aims at ensuring citizens rights to fair pay, health care, gender equality, minimum income, and other important social needs.
