Saturday, April 27, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands on his birthday, and sent the best wishes to the Dutch people celebrating their national holiday – King’s Day.
According to the President, the Kingdom of the Netherlands is seen as a very important partner and friend of Lithuania in collaboration both bilaterally and within the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
The President highlighted that Lithuania highly valued the fact that the two countries stand in the same line on key defense issues, including cyber security and increased military mobility in Europe, as well as securing defense capabilities and deterrence at the eastern borders of NATO.
In her message of congratulations, the President underlined that Lithuanian people were grateful to the Netherlands for the political will to send troops to NATO’s forward presence battalion in Lithuania and its repeated air force deployments in the Baltic air policing mission.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima paid a state visit to Lithuania last June as Lithuania celebrated the centennial of its restored statehood. The visit reaffirmed the relevance of rich cooperation among our people, steadily growing mutual business, investment, innovation, and cultural relations.
The President wished King Willem-Alexander, members of the Royal Family and the people of the Netherlands every success, prosperity, and unity.
