Thursday, November 28, Vilnius - At the beginning of the Vilnius Summit, President Dalia Grybauskaitė participated in a coordination meeting with European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, European Commission Vice-President Catherine Ashton and Commissioner for Enlargement Štefan Füle to discuss the common EU position on the prospects of the Eastern Partnership programme and the situation in Ukraine.
Dalia Grybauskaitė together with Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission reviewed the Vilnius Summit events and agreements planned to be signed with Eastern partners. The declaration of the summit was also discussed.
Later in the day, the President will attend a coordination meeting of the heads of state or government of EU member states and a working dinner which will be joined by leaders of the six Eastern Partnership countries.
The two-day Vilnius Summit is waiting for German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President François Hollande and UK Prime Minister David Cameron. Among the other participants will be Presidents of Latvia, Poland, Cyprus, Romania and Slovakia; Prime Ministers of the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Greece, Italy, Croatia, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, Hungary and Spain, as well as other high-ranking officials.
Countries participating in the Eastern Partnership programme will be represented at the summit by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Ukrainian President Viktor Janukovych, Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leancă, and Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei.
Taking part in the event will also be EU leaders and officials: European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, European Parliament President Martin Schulz, European Commission Vice-President and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle, and Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht.
Participants also include representatives of other EU institutions: a member of the Conference of Regional and Local Authorities for the Eastern Partnership (CORLEAP), Mercedes Bresso, representatives of the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly Evgeni Kirilov and Borys Tarasyuk, President of the European Economic and Social Committee Henry Malosse, and President of the European Investment Bank Werner Hoyer.
