Wednesday, March 18, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Marius Janukonis, Lithuanian ambassador to the Republic of Ukraine.
According to the President, Lithuania has always supported Ukraine’s fight for its democratic future, therefore it is important to further ensure Lithuania’s political and practical support to Ukraine. It is necessary to promote the sharing of experience accumulated by Lithuanian institutions and experts with Ukraine, rapidly provide information and organize humanitarian aid continuing the treatment of injured Ukrainians and education projects for Ukrainian children and students.
At the meeting, the President also urged the new ambassador to organize and coordinate events that will contribute to strengthening economic and cultural ties between Lithuanian and Ukrainian people.
Marius Janukonis holds a Master’s degree in law. He started his diplomatic career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995, was an adviser to the President on foreign policy affairs from 1998. The diplomat served in Lithuanian embassies in Minsk and Kyiv, headed the European Countries Department and Eastern Neighbourhood Policy Department, MFA. The ambassador speaks English, Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Belarusian, and French.
