The President to make an official visit to Sweden

Tuesday, April 8, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė will be going on an official visit to Sweden on April 10. In Stockholm, the Lithuanian head of state will meet with King Carl XVI Gustaf and Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt of Sweden.

The President and the Swedish leaders will discuss bilateral relations and cooperation in economic, business and energy spheres. They will talk about measures the European Union must take in dealing with the Ukraine crisis and will exchange views on the Baltic Sea region's security and defence issues.

During the visit, a bilateral agreement will be signed to legitimize the Lithuanian-Sweden maritime boundary. The agreement will also define a special economic zone and the continental shelf in the Baltic Sea.

According to the President, this is a very important step from geopolitical perspective as it will finalize the legitimation of Lithuania's all boundaries. This agreement will outline very clear boundaries of the Baltic Sea waters and seabed where Lithuania will be able to carry out economic and fishing activities, explore and extract mineral resources. Lithuania's power interconnection with Sweden will cross this border.

President Grybauskaitė will also open the Lithuanian-Swedish business forum. According to the President, both countries enjoy very good economic relations. Sweden is Lithuania's biggest investor. Last year, Swedish direct investments in our country reached 10 billion litas making them twice as large as Polish and German investments that rank second and third respectively.
