Monday, September 24, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė will attend the General Debate of the 67th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This year, the leaders of the world will discuss ways to resolve international disputes by peaceful means.
According to the President, unequal distribution of energy resources in the world allows some countries to abuse their monopolistic position, exert political pressure, cause international tension and incite energy wars.
The designing and implementation of clear and universally binding rules that would ensure the countries' equal access to energy resources and preclude abuse of energy dependence is an underlying prerequisite for the prevention of energy conflicts, she said.
During the visit, the President together with other heads of state will attend the working lunch hosted by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and will hold bilateral meetings.
Dalia Grybauskaitė will also meet with President Andris Bērziņš of Latvia to commemorate the Baltic Unity Day.
In New York, the President will visit the memorial for the victims of the September 11 attacks, which is located at the site of the destroyed Twin Towers.
