The President to attend events marking the 10th anniversary of Lithuania’s EU membership


Tuesday, April 29, Vilnius - As Lithuania marks the 10th anniversary of its membership in the EU, on Wednesday, April 30 President Dalia Grybauskaitė will take part in the events held on this occasion.

At 9.00 a.m. the President will open the conference "Ten years of membership in the European Union" taking place in the Column Hall of the Presidential Palace. During this conference, political scientists, academics and representatives of political parties will review Lithuania's achievements over a ten-year period and the first Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2013. Lithuania's future within the EU will also be discussed. The conference will be broadcast live via the internet at the website

At 14.00 hours the President invites all to Daukanto Square to join the open-air action "Give your smile to Europe". It involves the forming of a large human EU flag as well as playing the EU anthem and most popular songs of the 28 EU member states. All Lithuanian people are invited to participate in the action. At 18.30 hours during a festive concert "ESame" ("We Are") at the Cathedral Square, the President will congratulate Lithuanian people on the 10th anniversary of Lithuania's EU membership. At this concert will be recalled the road our country has travelled within the European Union and the achievements of Lithuanian people. The programme includes musical works performed by the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra (conductor prof. Gintaras Rinkevičius), Kaunas State Choir (artistic director prof. Petras Bingelis), and outstanding opera and pop music representatives.
