The President received letters of credence from Vietnamese Ambassador


Wednesday, April 9, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė accepted letters of credence from Ambassador Pham Kien Thiet of Vietnam.

The meeting focused on opportunities to deepen bilateral relations, notably through cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union.

The EU-Vietnam partnership and cooperation agreement was signed in 2012. Lithuania ratified it in 2013. The President underlined that the European Union was ready to complete negotiations on signing a free trade agreement with Vietnam.

The President and the Ambassador exchanged views on strengthening the economic ties between Lithuania and Vietnam. According to the Lithuanian head of state, the most promising areas of bilateral cooperation are business, education and tourism.

Pham Kien Thiet (57) is Vietnam's fifth Ambassador to Lithuania residing in Warsaw. The Ambassador is married, has two children. He obtained a degree in mechanic engineering from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, also studied at the Vietnam National Institute of Defence Military Technology. Earlier he worked in the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ambassador speaks Russian and English.
