The President received letters of credence from the Ambassadors of Switzerland, Brazil and Namibia


On Wednesday, President Gitanas Nausėda received letters of credence from Ambassador Martin Michelet of Switzerland, Ambassador Rodrigo de Azeredo Santos of Brazil and Ambassador Charles B. Josob of Namibia.

The President congratulated Swiss Ambassador Martin Michelet, accredited to Lithuania and residing in Riga, on taking up a new post as well as on the occasion of two important anniversaries this year – the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Switzerland. The President and the Ambassador discussed the potential and prospects for the development of bilateral relations as well as economic, trade and cultural ties. They addressed regional security issues and joint projects in developing cooperation in the Eastern Partnership region.

At the meeting with Brazilian Ambassador Rodrigo de Azeredo Santos, accredited to Lithuania and residing in Copenhagen, the President stressed the mutual interest in strengthening business ties and cooperation between academic and educational institutions. The President pointed out that economic cooperation had great potential for growth in the sectors of high value-added products and services. Gitanas Nausėda was delighted to note that Lithuania successfully contributed to the diversification of Brazil’s growing energy market and could expand cooperation from natural gas infrastructure to renewable energy sources. The President underlined the importance of concluding a bilateral agreement on the avoidance of double taxation for the successful development of business.

During his meeting with Namibian Ambassador Charles B. Josob, accredited to Lithuania and residing in Helsinki, the President invited Namibia to promote mutual economic cooperation in agriculture and food industry as well as tourism sectors. According to the President, the EU-Africa strategy, which is under preparation, will contribute to the development of bilateral relations. Gitanas Nausėda also said that he saw potential for cooperation in the field of university studies. Lithuania can share its best practice and help Namibia develop important energy infrastructure and renewable energy.
