The President received letters of credence from the Ambassador of Côte d'Ivoire


Monday, November 25, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė accepted letters of credence of the Ambassador of Côte d'Ivoire, Bernard Tanoh-Boutchoue.

According to the President, the EU-Africa strategic partnership is very important. She noted that Lithuania is looking forward to the EU-Africa Summit which will be held next year in Brussels.

To develop bilateral relations between Lithuania and Côte d'Ivoire, the President said, it is necessary to promote cooperation in economic and business spheres. Trade missions would contribute to enhancing the relationship between the two countries.

The meeting also touched upon bilateral collaboration opportunities in the sectors of education and student exchange. Several hundred students from African countries, mainly from Nigeria and Ghana, study in Lithuania in Kaunas Agricultural Academy. Offering study programs in foreign languages, Lithuania invites students from Côte d'Ivoire.

The President underlined that Lithuania appreciates Côte d'Ivoire's support in the elections to the United Nations Security Council.

Diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Côte d'Ivoire were established on 21 October 1997.

The Ambassador, born 1950, is married, has three children. Bernard Tanoh-Boutchoue completed diplomacy and law studies. He speaks French, Portugal, English, and a little Spanish.
