The President received letters of credence from Moldovan ambassador


Tuesday, August 17, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from Ambassador Igor Klipii of the Republic of Moldova.

The President expressed her strong hope that Moldova would continue its course towards Europe and promised overall support from Lithuania on this path. President Dalia Grybauskaitė and Ambassador Igor Klipii discussed the prospects of Moldova's political reforms and its nation-wide referendum to be held this coming September. They also talked about the problem of Transnistria and the relationship with Russia. The President urged the Ambassador to place a stronger focus on strengthening economic relations between their two countries.

The Ambassador expressed his gratitude to Lithuania for providing humanitarian aid after heavy flooding in Moldova and extended condolences to the people of Lithuania who have suffered from the recent violent storms.

Dalia Grybauskaitė wished the Ambassador success in discharging the important duties of his mission.

Igor Klipii (42) holds a master's degree in political sciences and international relations. From 2005 to 2009, he was member of the Parliament of Moldova. Before his appointment to Vilnius, he served as Director of the Institute for European Studies of Moldova.

Igor Klipii is the second Moldovan Ambassador who resides in Vilnius.
