Tuesday, April 23, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from Ambassador Mahmadsharif Mahmud Haqdod of Tajikistan.
The President and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations between Lithuania and Tajikistan, economic cooperation prospects as well as other relevant matters. When talking about cooperation in the international organizations the President highlighted that Lithuania supported Tajikistan’s intentions to strengthen relations with the European Union.
The President also encouraged the newly appointed Ambassador to make use of Lithuania’s experience in implementation of various reforms and promotion of student exchange and tourism. Tajikistan is well known among Lithuanian mountaineers. Three peaks in the Pamir Mountains were given Lithuanian names, such as Čiurlionis, Donelaitis, and Lithuania.
The diplomat held various official positions in Tajikistan since 1993. In 2016–2017, he was the Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister and as of 2017, the Ambassador to Belarus residing in Minsk.
