The President Gitanas Nausėda presented letters of credence via video conference to Lithuania’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China Diana Mickevičienė and Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa Dainius Junevičius
The President emphasized that Lithuania as well as other EU member states, was interested in developing political, economic, trade, and cultural relations with China as he spoke with the newly appointed Ambassador to China. The bilateral relations must be based on the principles of respect for democracy, human rights and freedoms.
The President identified promising growth areas for economic cooperation between Lithuania and China, including the promotion of Lithuanian exports to China and attracting Chinese tourists to Lithuania. Well-developed transport and logistics services in Lithuania could benefit the transit of Chinese goods through Lithuania. The President and the Ambassador also discussed fostering cultural and academic contacts in areas of mutual interest.
During the conversation with the new Ambassador to South Africa, the President highlighted the priorities of foreign policy, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and raising Lithuania profile in South Africa. The President stressed the importance of economic diplomacy for the development of relations. Development of economic collaboration between Lithuania and South Africa should revolve around IT, financial technology services as well as renewable technologies.
President Nausėda also pointed out the need for comprehensive cooperation with an abundant Litvak community in South Africa. We see this community as a bridge between Lithuania and the Republic of South Africa and the neighboring countries.
