Wednesday, December 17, Vilnius - With Christmas approaching, President Dalia Grybauskaitė paid a visit to Vilnius Lithuanians' House where she met with the school community and joined students at the Christmas creative workshop. Children from 30 countries, including 8 children from eastern Ukraine, live and study at Vilnius Lithuanians' House.
The President spoke with the children who came from Donetsk and Luhansk. The families of these children have been hit by disturbances in Ukraine. Ukrainian students are eagerly learning the Lithuanian language, visiting historical places of Lithuania and getting acquainted with our national culture.
At the workshop, students of Vilnius Lithuanians' House were making Christmas trees and toys from various products, baking muffins and gingerbread cookies, making beads, decorating cups and lamps. They will present the cards, cuttings, decoupage works, decorated honey cakes, soap and straw toys they made in this workshop to their family members and friends. The President wished the community of this school the fulfillment of dreams, human warmth and concord.
Vilnius Lithuanians' House provides education and accommodation to children who are descendants of Lithuanian exiles and political prisoners, children of foreigners or Lithuanian citizens who have come for a short time or returned to live permanently in Lithuania. 325 students from Latvia, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Greece, Denmark, Kazakhstan, United States, Israel and other countries study at the gymnasium.
