Thursday, August 22, Vilnius – President Gitanas Nausėda opened a conference hosted by President Valdas Adamkus and welcomed President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili, President Valdas Adamkus, Prime Minister of Moldova Maia Sandu and other distinguished guests. Political leaders gathered to discuss the EU and NATO enlargement issues as well as to review common EU energy policy.
In his welcome address the President emphasized the significance of EU leadership in shaping the Eastern Partnership policy.
“The future of the Eastern Partnership will highly depend on our courage and political will in the face of emerging challenges. We are well aware that efforts of our partners to seek closer integration with the European Union are constantly interrupted by new obstacles”, said the President.
U.S. Department of State Special Representative for Ukraine negotiations Kurt Volker hosted a debate in tribute to Senator John McCain: The Future of the West, Bringing Values and Identity Together.
The debate was attended by member of the European Parliament Andrius Kubilius, Latvian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Artis Pabriks, Chair of the US Congressional Hispanic Conference Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Member of the German Christian Democratic Union Michael Gahler, Senior Director of the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement Michael Carpenter, and Polish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcin Przydacz.
On August 23, the conference will move to Vilnius University where discussions on stopping Russian aggression and energy security will continue.
