President Gitanas Nausėda met with the United States Secretary of the Army, Ryan D. McCarthy, to discuss urgent national security issues and U.S.-Lithuania cooperation aimed at strengthening the defensibility of our region.
According to the President, adequate response to conventional threats continues to be Lithuania’s top priority: the Russian-posed threat is not decreasing, aggressive attacks are launched in cyber space, exercises are conducted, disinformation and narratives of historical revisionism are spread.
The President underlined that the presence of U.S. troops in our region and investment in infrastructure was strategically important for the security of Europe. U.S. presence in Europe is key to continental security. Transatlantic approach has always led to the best solutions and served as a guarantor of peace for many decades – we need to strengthen the bond as much as possible. Gitanas Nausėda pointed out that Lithuania would keep its membership in the two-percent club and continue allocating not less than 2 percent of GDP for defense spending.
