On October 15-16, President Gitanas Nausėda will attend the European Council to discuss issues related to the fight against climate change, the Brexit negotiations, as well as EU-Africa relations. The EU leaders will also assess the current situation of the pandemic, progress achieved in developing vaccine and EU-wide response to the consequences of the COVID 19 pandemic.
The President is going to speak on the topic climate change and draw the attention of EU leaders to the Green Lithuania initiative and its goals, note Lithuania's readiness to seek right, sustainable and effective ways for the implementation of ambitious climate change goals of the EU.
On the matter of the Brexit negotiations, the President will express Lithuania’s position on the need to reach a mutually beneficial agreement as soon as possible to be able to lay a solid foundation for a comprehensive partnership between the EU and the UK.
Before the Council session on Thursday, the President will meet with the Nordic and Baltic leaders.
