The President granted pardon to five persons

Taking into account the recommendations of the Clemency Commission, President Gitanas Nausėda signed two decrees on granting pardon to five persons.

Aldona Kazimiera Tunik has been releaved from paying the remainder of her fine on grounds of age, health and material difficulties.

Dalė Bachovienė’s term of imprisonment has been reduced by three years on grounds of health, positive character description, good conduct in prison, and low risk of repeated criminal behavior.

Danguolė Magziakienė’s term of imprisonment has been reduced by three years on grounds of her family situation, positive character description, good conduct in prison, and low risk of repeated criminal behavior. 

Nikolajus Filipčenko has been released from serving the remaining term of imprisonment based on Article 79(2) of the Penal Code of the Republic of Lithuania.

Sergejus Moisejenko has been released from serving the remaining term of imprisonment based on Article 79(2) of the Penal Code of the Republic of Lithuania.

The Clemency Commission held a sitting on 13 November 2019 to consider 123 requests for pardon.

All persons convicted by the courts of law of Lithuania can appeal for pardon. Also, all persons convicted by the courts of law of other countries and serving their sentence in Lithuania can file a request for pardon. Applicants may be granted freedom, reduced term of imprisonment or other sentences.

The Clemency Commission is comprised of the President of the Supreme Court of Lithuania and the Chairperson of Court of Appeal of Lithuania, Minister of Justice, Prosecutor General (or authorized persons), representatives of the Lithuanian Prisoners Aid Association, Lithuanian Association of Lawyers, Lithuanian Society for Support to Victims of Crime, and the President’s advisers on legal issues.
