Wednesday, July 21, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė on behalf of herself and the people of Lithuania extended congratulations to His Majesty Albert II, King of the Belgians, on the occasion of Independence Day.
„After gaining independence 180 years ago, today Belgium is one of the most important supporters of a united and prosperous Europe. Your country serves as an inspiring example of a small state playing an important role in the history of the whole continent. I would like to wish that during its Presidency of the European Union in this half-year, Belgium would help Europe recover from the global economic crisis and would bring the Old Continent closer together," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
Dalia Grybauskaitė underlined that Belgium's experience and knowledge were an important element of the relationship between the two countries. She expressed her delight that it was with Belgian companies that Lithuania was successfully expanding cooperation ties in economic sectors of strategic significance. The President highlighted that such contacts would surely continue to develop and that the number of joint projects would continue to grow.
