The President extended condolences over the death of Vaclav Havel
Sunday, December 18, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended, on behalf of the Lithuanian people and herself, sincere condolences over the death of former President of the Czech Republic and prominent dissident, Vaclav Havel.
"With Vaclav Havel, we have lost a great figure of historic dimensions - a dissident, playwright, President, and hero who contributed to the fall of communism not only in the Czech Republic, but also in the whole of Europe. I extend my heartfelt condolences over the passing of President Vaclav Havel. The people of Lithuania and I have been much grieved to learn about his death. In this hour of deep sorrow, I wish you strength and fortitude. Vaclav Havel inspired to stand up and speak out those who did not have an opportunity of choice in the totalitarian system. He gave meaning to peaceful revolutions in his country, which served as a guiding light to Lithuanian dissidents," Dalia Grybauskaitė wrote in her message of condolences.
