Thursday, August 22, Vilnius – President Gitanas Nausėda met with President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili. The two Presidents discussed bilateral cooperation in areas of politics, security, economy, and culture. The President expressed support to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Lithuania has been consistently supporting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, by not recognizing the occupied territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Lithuania also upholds Georgia’s efforts to seek closer integration with the European Union, especially in terms of implementation of the Association Agreement”, the President said.
Economic and cultural cooperation were also among the topics discussed at the meeting of the Presidents. Georgia is one Lithuania’s largest trading partners in the South Caucasus and the Presidents agreed to continue developing economic relations even more effectively. President Nausėda expressed willingness to promote Lithuanian culture in Georgia and to support Georgian cultural initiatives in Lithuania.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of renewed diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Georgia. Taking this opportunity, President Salome Zourabichvili attended the conference hosted by President Valdsas Adamkus organised to discuss the Eastern Patnership issues.
