President Gitanas Nausėda had a telephone call with President Reuven Rivlin of Israel. During their conversation, the President extended congratulations to the Israeli leader on Independence Day. He also expressed interest in the successful experience of vaccinating the Israeli population and in prospects for opening the economy.
“I sincerely congratulate the State of Israel on Independence Day, and wish you and the entire nation peace, security and prosperity,” the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda welcomed the fact that Israel had managed to vaccinate the greater part of the country’s population and successfully contain the pandemic. He also stressed that Israel had set an example to be followed by the whole world, which Lithuania would like to use for opening the economy and returning to normal life. The Israeli government is already planning the purchase of new vaccines in the event of another pandemic wave in the coming six months.
Although due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, the President of Israel was unable to attend the events dedicated to the 300th anniversary the Vilna Gaon and 700 years of Lithuanian Jewish history, these historical anniversaries of great importance to both nations were commemorated across Lithuania with numerous events, conferences and documentaries.
At the end of the conversation, the President wished Israel a smooth formation of the new government and invited the Israeli leader to visit Lithuania.
