On behalf of the Lithuanian people, President Gitanas Nausėda extended sincere congratulations to President Borut Pahor and the people of Slovenia on Statehood Day and wished for strong health, continued success and prosperity of the country and its people.
“I would like to thank you once again, Mr. President, for the solidarity with Lithuania in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. I believe that by being united we will be able to mitigate the economic consequences of the pandemic and will be prepared to face the future challenges. It is important to create a level playing field for all member states to benefit from the European Recovery Fund”, the President said in the message of congratulations.
According to the President, close bilateral relations between Lithuania and Slovenia were further strengthened by the accession to the European Union and NATO sixteen years ago. Lithuania and Slovenia share a similar vision for the future of the European Union and work together to achieve common goals: to strengthen NATO, ensure security at regional and EU level, and support visibility and dissemination of European values in the neighborhood. The President highlighted that the Eastern Partnership was not only an economic integration but also a geopolitical project therefore even more active involvement and support from Slovenia was expected to maintain the strategic and geopolitical direction of the Eastern Partnership policy.
The President expressed hope that strengthening of cooperation between Lithuania and Slovenia would open new opportunities for people to exploit this potential and implement mutual initiatives.
